Golf is popular all around the world, with top golf courses competing for not only local members but also tourists who travel to play the best courses in the world. As an area with a humid subtropical climate, Wichita is an ideal location for lush golf courses. 

There are a variety of both public courses and private clubs throughout the area, most of which offer manicured greens and plenty of amenities for golfers of all skill levels. Wichita has several major golf courses offering 18 holes and mini-golf courses for people who like to putt. Golfers who live at Fox Run Apartments have easy access to many of the best local courses. 

MacDonald Golf Course 

The MacDonald Golf Course is a popular public course in the heart of Wichita. The 6,948-yard course opened in 1913 as the Wichita Country Club. This 18-hole course has a par of 72, making it a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

The course is lined with mature cottonwood trees, which can be an important consideration for those with seasonal allergies. Migrating geese enjoy the greens, so the staff brought in Jack, the Goose Dog, to deter the local geese population from spending too much time on the course or in its water hazards. Jack helps keep the grounds clean of goose droppings. Jack was trained at Fly Away Geese in North Carolina before the staff at MacDonald adopted him. He has helped to reduce the number of nests on the course. 

The MacDonald course is home to the Steve Hatchett Youth Golf Campus Driving Range, which opened to the public in 2020. The driving range was built by First Tee Greater Wichita, funded by private contributions, to stimulate interest in the sport among young people. First Tee also has a Youth Golf Campus on the northwest edge of the course. 

The course is maintained with sod to cover bare spots. The height of the rough is the same as the neighboring Arthur B. Sim and Tex Consolver courses. This course has several water hazards. 

Arthur B Sim Golf Course 

The Arthur B. Sim Golf Course is another full course with 18 holes. This popular par-71 course is nestled into the Museum District in central Wichita, adjacent to Botanica, another beloved local attraction. The 18 sprawling, winding holes at this course cover 6,330 yards along a bend in the Arkansas River. This golf course has been open to the public for play since 1921.  

The juxtaposition of the serene course surrounded by the skyline of downtown makes it a truly unforgettable golf experience. With tree-lined fairways and bunkers in the greens, the Arthur B. Sim Golf Course is just challenging enough to keep people coming back again and again. There is a pro shop, and lessons are available.  

Tex Consolver Golf Course 

The Par-72 Tex Consolver Golf Course is located at Pawnee Prairie Park. The public course, designed by Bob Dunning, measures 7,361 yards. There are six holes with water hazards, relatively open fairways, and green complexes specifically designed to limit the impact of Kansas winds on play.  

Tex Consolver is one of the most popular local golf courses and often reports more holes played than any other local course throughout the year. The course has a full-service pro shop that offers the latest equipment along with lessons from seasoned professionals. 

Auburn Hills Golf Course 

Auburn Hills Golf Course is part of a residential community. The par-72 course, designed by Perry Dye, takes advantage of rolling hills and wetlands. The challenging 7,169-yard course features tight corridors and numerous hazards for golfers of all levels. Water hazards are located throughout the 18 holes. 

The course is open to the public. It hosts the Korn Ferry Tour qualifier, as well as many United States Golf Association and Kansas Golf Association events each year. The clubhouse has meeting facilities and a pro shop.

Rolling Hills Country Club 

This private country club was established as the Westlink Golf Course in the 1920s. It became Rolling Hills in 1948, and it was redesigned by Floyd Farley in 1963 as a Parkland course. Many seasoned local golfers consider the course at Rolling Hills Country Club to be one of the most difficult courses in the Wichita area.  

The 18-hole Rolling Hills Country Club hosted the Women's U.S. Open in 1950 and became the birthplace of the LPGA. The organization was founded in the clubhouse by 13 players during this tournament. The course hosts women's golf events every year. The club also has junior golf programs. 

Sierra Hills Golf Course 

Sierra Hills Golf Course is an executive course that boasts 3,100 playable yards designed by Leo Johnson. The par-58 course has four par-4 holes and 14 par-3 holes. The bluegrass course leads across a rolling terrain with six distinct water hazards. The 18th hole requires golfers to shoot over the water to the green.  

There is also a natural grass driving range that offers 300 yards of space to practice. There are three sets of tees at each hole to allow for varying skill levels. The course requires that golfers purchase a membership, but their membership program is open to everyone. 

Willowbend Golf Club 

Willowbend Golf Club is a semi-private 18-hole golf club designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. The course is challenging for golfers of all skill levels. Willowbend receives high ratings from golfers due to its meticulously-maintained bentgrass, but it is a relatively challenging course. Golfers must cross water on five of the 18 holes. 

Annual memberships and season passes are available. The course includes a double-ended driving range and practice facilities. A pro shop and clubhouse are part of the club. The club has a senior league in addition to evening leagues. 

Mini Golf 

Wichita golfers can putt all year on the 36 holes at Glow Golf. This unique indoor mini golf course features 36 black-light-illuminated holes and music playing to keep the golfing experience lively. It is a great place for parties for kids and adults.  

Mega Pines Mini Golf offers 18 National Park-themed holes for putters. Located just east of Andover, this incredible facility is just a short drive from Wichita and is definitely worth the trip! Nine of the holes are ADA accessible. The park theme starts at Denali, Alaska, and travels across the country to end at Northeast Acadia in Maine. This is a fun way to learn about geography and our national parks. The facility also has gellyball and yard games, which can be fun for the especially competitive! 

Topgolf offers special practice golf and other games for adults and children all year. Golfers can practice their golf swing in special hitting bays using high-tech equipment without worrying about the weather. There is also a 9-hole mini golf course. Topgolf is a sports entertainment complex with a full food and beverage menu.
